Look how focused we all were in Maths today! Learning about fractions is engaging stuff!
Over the last week we have been learning about 1/4, 1/2 and 1/3 of a shape or a set. We have learnt to identify the symbols and words for the fractions. We used play dough, magnets, string and pegs, folded paper, whiteboards, farm animals and pizza shapes to practise with. Each day we have had some model students to copy who were sitting up and focused at mat learning time...guess who Mrs Anand spotted today??

Self Portraits
Over the last week the children have been working on self portraits. They were started by Ms Hirzel and the sketching and colouring has been completed by Ms Fenner yesterday and today. They are still a work in progress but they are looking good!
The children were quite impressed by the portraits they saw on MVTV that the Intermediates had done in Term 1. They really liked the bold patterns they used to fill in the background. So we might have to investigate that a bit further and find out if they were painted or coloured....and what we need to do next????

ANZAC Assembly
Did you know that some miners from NZ went to France and dug huge tunnels for the soldiers under the ground? They made some tunnels to join some caves together, they had hospitals, kitchens and bathrooms all under ground. We read some very interesting stories about what happened in the war.
We hope everyone has a safe and special ANZAC holiday with their families.
Little Chicks
We had some fun today making little Easter Chick baskets with Room 5. We had no written instructions. We looked at an example and had to figure out how to make our own. We had yellow cups, different eyes, beaks, pipe cleaners, feathers and feet. We got the idea from Eun Seop's birthday baskets from last year.
And don't they just look super cool!! Thanks Eun Seop!!
Constable Lorena
We joined in with Room 5 to listen to Constable Lorena tell us how the Police help us in our community. We learnt lots of interesting things. The police can help keep us safe using helicopters, police dogs and they even have a police launch. Next term Constable Lorena will come back to teach us Road Safety and Car Safety.
Maths
We had fun making kites to show families of facts. Next time we will make the tail bows a bit bigger so it is easier to write the equations in them.
ICT with Mr Gover
Every Monday afternoon this term Mr Gover comes in to teach us how to use some different programmes on the laptops. We know how to save our work so we can carry on and finish, edit or change things at a later date. We can do some Google searches using key words to find information. We have learnt how to do some 2-D animation in Kahootz. Most of us know our Sumdog passwords now so we can have great fun while practising even more maths at home!
Problem Solving
Sometimes we work in Room 5 for maths and sometimes they come in and work with us in Room 6. It is fun to work in groups with different children when we are doing problem solving. People learn and think and work things out in different ways. We are learning to share our ideas about how we worked out an answer. Some people write down numbers or equations. Some like to use equipment, some draw pictures or diagrams. We can learn from each other.
Basketball with Ben
Basketball
Thank you Ben!
We have had so much fun learning basketball skills and some cool games too.
Maths - Statistics
Maths - Statistics
We have just been out to the car park finding out how many cars of each colour there are. We used tally marks, and filled in a table. We worked by ourselves or with a learning buddy.
Corbans Estate Visit
We had so much fun making and creating, using our imaginations and coming up with 3- D sculptures.
It was great to have access to
so many interesting bits and bobs that we were able to join and attach, in different ways.
Thanks to the Mums and Dads who were able to come with us, enjoy the day and help with any 'tricky stuff' that needed adult hands.
Soccer Coaching
We have had so many interesting things happening that it is hard to know where to start!
So lets start with the "soccer taster session" this was a fun surprise that we all enjoyed.

Hopefully some people who don't already play soccer may decide they would like to give it a go!
